About The John Mather Trust
Set up by its eponymous benefactor to benefit young people in the West of Scotland.

Ayrshire College
Leah Smith studied for an HNC Applied Science then an HND in Biomedical Science.
She says, “I chose this career as it gives me relevant experience for the future when I finish my degree and decide which route to take. I love that each day is different.
“My college course helped me learn the jargon in a lab, how to use certain machines and equipment and to understand the importance of risk assessments and health and safety in the workplace”.
“I am now in my third year of university studying a joint honours degree in Biochemistry with Immunology. I plan on finishing university and getting my degree whilst working as a technical laboratory assistant and learning more in the field.”
The John Mather Trust supports students and alumni of Ayrshire College who have learned a trade and gone into employment, started an apprenticeship or set up their own business. Many of those eligible for a John Mather award receive a set of tools of their chosen trade to help them in their careers.
